Experience Months Counter
Employment and experience calculator
Counts work, volunteer, contract, or service experience in months and compares it against a selected time requirement.
How it works
Enter each experience period with a start month, end month, and qualifying percentage. The calculator counts the months, adjusts for partial-credit periods, and compares the total against your selected target. The default target is 60 months, equal to 5 years.
You can add multiple periods, mark a period as ongoing, exclude rows for scenario testing, and choose how overlapping periods are counted.
When to use it
- Best used for checking whether employment, volunteer, contract, board, committee, teaching, review, advisory, or project experience adds up to a required number of months.
- Not used for confirming whether experience will be accepted by an employer, regulator, professional body, academic program, certification process, or other decision-maker.
- Audience includes workers, volunteers, applicants, administrators, reviewers, and anyone tracking experience against a time-based requirement.
Notes and limits
- This tool counts time periods only. It does not assess the quality, relevance, level, responsibility, or acceptability of the experience.
- The user decides which periods to include and what qualifying percentage to apply.
- Different organizations may count part-time work, overlapping roles, leave periods, ongoing work, and incomplete months differently.
- Results are estimates for personal tracking, early review, and record preparation.
