Before you publish

This is a starting point, not a finished product. Review and edit every question before publishing. Remove questions that do not connect to a real decision or information need.

Privacy. Confirm your organization's authority to collect responses, how data will be stored, how long it will be kept, and who to contact with questions. Add a privacy notice before publishing.

Accessibility. Check plain language, colour contrast, mobile usability, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility. Provide a non-digital option and offer alternative formats on request.

Representativeness. An open public survey shows who chose to respond. Do not describe results as representative unless the method, sampling, and response profile support that conclusion.

Indigenous engagement. A public survey is not a substitute for direct engagement, consultation, or rights-holder processes. If the project may affect Indigenous rights, title, interests, cultural heritage, lands, or governance, seek appropriate advice before publishing.
